It is hugely disappointing to say that this Arsenal team, lacks the winning mentality required very badly. Yesterday's defeat to Ipswich Town, was the limit as far as I am concerned.
Arsene put out a squad, with 5 of the so called first team players, a definite indication that he wanted this game to be won. But, the team were more like- ''we are the Arsenal, and we are facing the lowest team in championship, we can win this game just by strolling in the pitch''. And that was evident throughout the whole game. But credit to Ipswich who played out of their skin, defended well and searched for the goal too. The win was thoroughly deserved, I think.
I can't remember the last time when we had lost so much games by January? Truly shambolic. This is Arsene's team, and if you want to point fingers please do. He is the man who needs to motivate these players, ahead of games like these. Whenever we face a low level team, we kind of perform like school kids. That is not at all acceptable at this level. The team had more than enough chances to note that, if you don't perform 100%, you can get thrashed the way we did yesterday.
More disappointing is the fact that, Arsene making excuses of the defeat-
''We looked in control in the first half but in the second half we looked much more vulnerable defensively, I put that down to fatigue''
Fatigue!!! my foot. We are talking about professional footballers here. Its such a tame excuse. He must have made it clear, that this game is a Semi final for god's sake and that we needed to win it. I don't know, what he is telling these players. And to be honest, apart from a higher possession, I don't feel that we were in control at any stage of the game whatsoever. The passing, defending, attacking, all were shocking. Ipswich had more shots on target, with their limited possession and that itself speaks volumes.
The second leg will be played in a fortnight's time, and hopefully this team can beat them then. And before that, the manager needs to find out the real problem whatever it is and correct it. Its been six long years now without a trophy and he needs to sort out the problems, because this is a glorious chance to win a silverware, eventhough its League cup. Our unbeaten run of five games, since the defeat at Old trafford ended yesterday, huh..
Sort out the issues Arsene !, this is your team..
Take care gooners...
